EAST COAST RAILWAY
OPOTIKI URGES CLAIMS From Our Own Correspondent OPOTIKI, Monday. .Following up the remarks made by the Hon. E. A. Ransom in the Public Works statement, that the results obtained from the working of the East ..Coast Main Trunk railway were such as to justify the extension to Opotiki when other works Were finished, the Opotiki Chamber of Commerce recently wrote to the Minister of PLiblic Works pointing out that the IvirikopuniDargaville line would be finished about Christmas. The chamber suggested that on completion of the line, the plant and men bo transferred from that section to make a commencement with the Taneatua-Opotiki line. The chamber also pointed out that the Prime Minister had been asked immediately to undertake the road deviation at Taneatua, which was a necessary complement to railway construction.
The chamber lias now received a reply from the Minister, in which he states lie will be pleased to look into the question of transferring the men to the Taneatua-Opotiki line; and will advise tlie chamber later.
