RIFLE SHOOTING

There was great activity. on the Paeroa rifle range on Saturday, when the members of the rifle club met and fired in a handicap competition for a rose bowl donated by the Farmers’ Trading Company, Limited (Mr. Finnie). This was also the second slyiot of the first round iu the club championship and handicap aggregate. The riflemen were kept puzzled by a srong wind blowing, but which died down considerably later in the afternoon. The conditions were seven shots and two sighters at 500 and 600 yards ranges, with a limit up to which the handicap could be taken of 64. After a very exciting and keen fight the trophy was won by Rifleman L. Morris, who was shooting very well. He scored 64. Rifleman A. A. Jenkinson was close up second. Among those present was Mr. H. J. Verrall, a prominent member of the Auckland City Rifle Club, who will be in the district for some time.
