AMATEUR ATHLETICS

PAPATOETOE CLUB The second' evening meeting of the Papatoetoe Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club was held on the Papatoetoe Recreation Ground last evening. Some excellent performances were recorded. Details are as follow : —• 120 Yards Handicap.—A. Dawson (3yds), 1; D. F. Gardiner (Iyd), 2; V. Smytheman (scr.), 3. From a good start, Dawson took the lead when half of the distance had been covered, with Gardiner and Smytheman coming into position. Dawson maintained the lead to break the tapes two yards ahead of Gardiner, with Smytheman one yard back, third. 600 Yards Handicap.—V. Smytheman (30yds), 1; P. Anderson (40yds) 2; R. Bennett (35yds), 3. Eleven entrants faced the starter. When 400 yards had been covered, A. Anderson put in a strong challenge to a bunched field, and took the lead, which he maintained till entering the straight, •when he had to give way to V. Smytheman, who Iran a good race and finished four yards ahead of P. Anderson, with R. Bennett one yard back third. R. McKenzie filled fourth place. The next meeting will be held on Thursday evening.
