Obituary

MRS. ANASTASIA BELL The widow of the late Mr. Edmund Bell,. Mrs. Anastasia Bell, died at her home in Bellevue Road, Mount Eden, on Sunday evening,. at the age of 77. Mr. Bell, at one time, was manager of a West Coast mine. Tlie couple had lived in Auckland for many years. Mrs. Bell leaves four daughters, Mrs. T. H. Levien, Mrs. D. Mitchell, Miss Edith Bell and Miss Ivy Bell, and a son, Mr. Percy Bell, all of Auckland. THE REV. P. W. JONES The Rev. P. W. Jones, a retired Methodist minister, was found dead in a chair at his home at Feilding yesterday by a visiting minister. He had been living alone since his wife died two years ago. The late Mr. Jones, .who was about SO years of age, was a pioneer minister in the district. He conducted services when tlie original settlers arrived in 1574. He was president of tlie Feilding Prohibition League for many years.—P.A. MR. C. R. GARDENER A well-known resident of Mount Eden, Mr. C. R. Gardener, has died. Mr. Gardener, a native of Odeham, England, left for the Dominion with his parents in 1861. His father was buried at sea six weeks after leaving the Old Country. With his brothers, the young man opened a general store in the Wairarapa. For many years Mr. Gardener was in business in Wellington and in Devonport. A brother was Mayor of Levin for several terms. MR. H. C. WILLIAMS

The deatli of Mr. H. C. Williams, for many years connected with leading .coach-building firms in Auckland, has occurred at his home.

For many years Mr. Williams was with Messrs. Cousins and Atkins, where he served his apprenticeship, gaining further experience in Melbourne and Sydney. He entered partnership with Messrs. Gilmour and Joll on his return to Auckland, later setting up a business on his own account. This was formed into a private company shortly before his death. His firm tendered successfully for the construction of tramcar bodies for the City Council.

In his early daj's Mr. Williams was connected with the volunteer movement, being a member of the Coastguard Artillery. He was also an early member of the Ponsonby Lodge of Druids. He is sury* ved by bis wife, who is a daughter c Mr. George Ivil, and by one son and a daughter.
