“THE DESERT SONG”
A ROMANCE OF MOROCCO From burning deserts and Moorish halls and harems to the darksome mountain fastnesses of brigands, the tale of “The Desert Song” takes its romantic way. Melody, dancing and fun go with it delightfully. So the musical play which is being presented at Ifis Majesty’s Theatre continues to win golden opinions, as it richly deserves to do. As the Red Shadow, young leader of a desperate band of Riff bandits, Dance Fairfax has a romantic part to play, and he does it well. His is a dual role, for he is also the son of the French governor of the district. Marie Bremneiv who takes the leading role on the other side, is a captivating heroine. The fun of the show is supplied by Herbert Mundin and Renee Murphy, and they provoke constant laughter. “The Desert Song” is a melodious play, full .of delightful songs and choruses, all of which are splendidly sung. “The Desert Song” naturally is the principal number, but other particularly* pleasing numbers were the riding song of the Riffs, “It,” “Let Love Go,” “One Flower in Tour Garden,” “One Alone,” and “Romance.” Altogether “The Desert Song” ranks equally in every way with the best musical plays seen .in Auckland. It will be presented again in His Majesty’s Theatre this v evening.
