Arrow Lad Takes Big Feilding Race

THE RAIDER REPEATS SURPRISE IN NURSERY CSpccial to TUB SUN) FEILDING, Monday. The second day of the Feilding Jockey Club’s jubilee meeting was held • in fine weather, and there was a large attendance. The track was in good order. The totalisator handled £25,754, against £21,034 on the second day last year, making the total for the meeting £53,012, against £41,391 last year. For the principal event, the St. Andrew’s Handicap, Bright Glow (£S2O) was preferred to Ruanui (£705) and Arrow Lad (£397). Merry Mint set the pace over the early portion from Arrow Lad, Teri, Ruanui, Keddar and. Jov Bird, and the positions underwent little change among the leading division going down the back, save that Bright Glow and Kawhakina worked forward. Merry Mint and Teri were still together as they came across the top for home, with Arrow Lad and Talisker ahead of Bright Glow and Keddar. and Blimp. Shrewd and Kawhakina within striking distance. With heads straightened out Arrow Lad cam© through fast and drew a wav to win by two lengths from Teri. who was a length and a-half in front of Talisker. with Bright Glow, who had not enjoyed an uninterrupted run. fourth. Then came Merry Mint and Shrewd, Arrow Lad will run on further than he was required to today. The Two-Year-Olds Simba (£541) and Cylinder (£37-8), were backed solidly for the Oroua Nuravoui'ite was outpaced, although Cylinder gave his backers a small increased return. Cylinder and Simba were smartest to begin from Awaken, Kahikatoa and Arisus, but crossing the top Lady Pam and Arisus dashed into the lead, and they were well clear of Simba, Arrowjean and Cylinder as they came into the straight. Cy linder came fast from the distance, but failed to reach Lady Pam, who scored by a head, with Arisus a length away. Kahikatoa was fourth, with the favourite a poor fifth, Arrowjean being next to finish. The winner is good, and the other place-fillers useful. Simba finished well. Xii© first day’s winner, The Raider (£789), was installed favourite for the Colyton Handicap, there being, however, good support for Havering (£738) and Gold Cure (£426). The Raider und Kaihoro began smartly, but the former gave way to Kaihoro, with Havering, Hunting Boy and Llanore heading the bunch. Passing the fourfurlong post Callonmore made a forward move, and was attending Kaihoro as they turned for home, with The Raider ahead of Havering and Hunting Boy. A great battle ensued in the run to the judges’ box, between The Raider and Kaihoro, the former getting up to win by a neck, with a gap of a couple of lengths to Gold Dawn, Llanore, Dobbin and Havering. Kaihoro will not be long. The following are the results: Cheltenham Hurdles, of £175; about 1' J? ed . Bank ’ 10 - 4 ’ A. V. McDonald. 3: Elysianor, 12.6, W. J. Bowden 2* . Delude, 9.6, E. A.
