FIRE PREVENTION

DISTRICT BRIGADES CONFER SCHOOL INSTRUCTION Thirty-one delegates, representing fire brigades throughout the Auckland ; district attended the annual confer-, ence in the Newmarket Municipal j Hall on Saturday evening. Superintendent J. Henderson presided. According to the balance sheet every brigade was financial and the revenue amounted to £SI last year, an increase of £6 on the previous 12 months. . , The conference decided to uold the next demonstration and conference in Dargaville. An effort is also to be made to assist the executive to have teaching of fire lessons in school made compulsory. The association placed on record its appreciation of the services rendered by Messrs. Hollingsworth and Gray, the two chief officers of the former Green Lane Brigade, to their district and also to the lire prevention work throughout the Dominion. Officers for the ensuing.year were: elected as under: —President. Deputy-] Suj»sriotendent A. Fleming, Thames; senior vice-president. Foreman J. Grant, Onehunga: junior vice-presi- ! dent, Fireman M. Sarah, Taumarunui: treasurer, Mr. C. A. Osborne, I Oneliunga; secretary. Captain T. J. Watts, Newmarket; auditors, Mr. I*. | ir. Hollingsworth and Mr. J. A. Gray, Green Lane; trustees, Superintendent H. K. Folias. Devouport, and Foreman j. e. Williams, Mount Eden. The Newmarket Brigade later entertained the delegates at a smoke I concert, which was attended by a ] large assemblage of brigadesmen and citizens. The guests included Mr. W. IJ. Jordan, M.P.. Mr. S. Donaldson. Mavor of Newmarket; and Messis. W. ! c. Kemble and Baker, of the Underwriters Association. Captain I. JS Watts presided. Entertaining hems I were provided by Messrs. J. McMinn, ! T.
