HARD TIME FOR CROOKS

SCOTLAND YARD’S NEW SYSTEM POLICE AT READY CALL Reed. 11.55 a.m. LONDON, Friday. Crooks, confidence tricksters- and smash-and-grab thives will soon find their livelihood departing. Scotland Yard has organised an elaborate system of police posts, similar to Post Office kiosks, but blue instead of red, and labelled “Police.” When the system is fully established in London, the public will instantly be able to get in touch with any subdivisional stations, and summon a body of police in a 20-korsepower van to any place in the Metropolitan area within five minutes. In case of an emergency, up to 20 police and detectives will be available. The van contains a steel-lined cell and first-aid appliances.
