DOMINION’S FOURTH GOVERNOR-GENERAL
THE Rt. Hon. Lord Bledisloe, Privy Councillor, who has been appointed to succeed his Excellency Sir Charles Fergusson, will be the fourth Royal representative in New Zealand to hold by Letters Patent the designation of Gover-nor-General and Commander-in* Chief. The alteration in title was effected on May 11, 1917, a.most ten years after the raising of New Zealand’s status from colony to Dominion. Earl Liverpool was the first of the King’s representatives in this country to hold the new title of Governor-General and was so designated from June, 1917, to July” 7, 1920, following on five years’ service as Governor.^ His successors were Viscount Jellicoe, of Scapa (from September 27, 1920, to November 25, 1924), and General Sir Charles Fergusson (from December 13, 1924).
