LEAP FROM WINDOW

BOARDER ESCAPES FIRE TAKEN TO HOSPITAL Press Association WELLINGTON, Friday. A man’s leap for life from a burning building was witnessed this afternoon, when fire broke out at the Arahiwi Private Hotel, in Abel Smith Street. The fire had a fairly strong hold when discovered, and the firemen were faced with a difficult task. The flames spread so rapidly that an attempt to get in touch with a boarder on the first floor was out of the question. The man had to jump to the ground, a distance of about 25ft. He received injuries and had to be taken to the hospital. The building, which is of 22 rooms, was very severely damaged. The proprietress is Mrs. E. M. Pine.
