In January, 1928. he ip. peared in Australian championship, and, after swimming second to E. w Jones, distance champion, over 44, yards, he defeated Moss Christie, 13*4 Olympic swimmer, over 1,500 metres in 22.30, the best Australian time for the distance. He also swam 100 yards in 61 2-ssec and 220 yards in 2.36 1-5, In Australia last season, Ryan did remarkably well against the world’, best swimmer, Arne Borg. Borg towered above Ryan in physiqpe, but the Australian y'outh established remarkably good times, second to Borg, over 440 yards and 880 yards. The respective times weer 5.17 and 11.2.
