STATE TO OPEN MINE
CABINET AWAITS RESULT OF PARLEY FREE LABOUR TO BE USED United P..t.— Bit Telegraph — Copyright Reed. 10.5 a.m. SYDNEY, Today. The State Ministry has altered its plans regarding the Rothbury mine. If the present negotiations between the coal owners and the miners fail, the Ministry will proceed immediately with manning the colliery with free labour. It is proposed to work through the Christmas season, with the exception of Christmas Day. Many applications have been received from skilled men. POSITION IN BRITAIN NO AGREEMENT REACHED WITH OWNERS LONDON, Thursday. The Coal Committee of the Cabinet held a conference with the coal owners with reference to its legislative proposals, but no agreement was reached. The "Daily Telegraph’s” Parliamentary correspondent says he gathers that the use of pulverised coal as fuel by the navy is being closely investigated with a view to assisting in a revival of the coal trade. Besides the advantage of having the navy’s fuel supply within Britain, this would release a large capital sum locked up in oil reserves.
