AUCKLAND GIRLS’ DAY

TOMORROW’S MONSTER GALA INTER-HOUSE SPORTS Tomorrow will be the big day of the year for Auckland girls—at least those of them who are taking part in the sixth annual interhouse sports meeting at Carlaw Park. The headquarters of the League game in Auckland, which all winter is graced by mud-bespattered football players, is now looking its best, and tomorrow the broad stretch of green will be transformed into a multicoloured scene, as the 500 gaily-dressed girls of the City’s soft goods houses present their sixth annual carnival. The public in the past has accorded these events of the year its everswelling support, and can be expected to find its way to Carlaw Park tomorrow in thousands for the sports meeting which the Inter-House Girls’ Sports Association confidently expects will be the best ever. The proceeds of the meeting this year will be devoted to the maintenance of the Auckland Inter-House Girls’ Club, an institution opened in August last with the object of promoting a spirit of good fellowship among the girl employees of the soft goods houses. The girls themselves have put in many weeks of training, and under the direction of Lieutenant T. P. Laffey, N.Z.S.C., and his assistants will take the field tomorrow with almost the precision of trained soldiers, in the marching events, and with the keenness of highly-trained athletes in the sprint sporting events. The Grand Victory Challenge Cup, presented by the Drapers’ and Mercers’ Association, for the highest aggregate points, is at present held by George Court and Sons, Ltd., and the Sharman Cup, for aggregate points in team events, is held by Macky, Logan, Caldwell, Ltd. The other cups for competition are the 75yds Championship Cup, held by Milne and Clioyce, Ltd.; the Marching Cup, George Court and Sons, Ltd.; the Inter-house Tic-lay Cup, Ambler and Company, Ltd.: and the Physical Culture Cup. George Court and Sons, Ltd. Two new trophies. presented by the Farmers’ Trading Company, Ltd., and Messrs. Milne and Choyce, Ltd., will be competed for tomorrow. Details of the sports meeting are advertised.
