OPENING AT RUATOKI

FINANCING MAORI FARMERS Press Association WHAKATANE, Today. The new cheese factory at Ruatoki was opened yesterday by Sir Api r ana Ngata in the presence of a large number of pakehas and natives. The building has been erected in concrete and is modern in every respect. It cost £6,000 and the plant £3.000. , Sir Apirana stated that as a result of recent legislation it was intended to assist the natives at Ruatoki by consolidating their titles, thus enabling them to raise finance to purchase cattle, grass seed and manures. Mr. Walter Reid, chairman of the Opuriao and Ruatoki Dairy Company, referred to the capacity of native farmers as suppliers. With financial assistance they would be enabled to improve their farms and increase production.
