SHEEP FOR RUSSIA
LARGE NUMBERS GOING FROM AUSTRALIA NEWSPAPER CRITICISM STDXET, Wednesday. The Norwegian motor-ship Thalatta leaves during the week-end with a consignment of 5,000 rams and ewes for Russia. The purchase was made on behalf of the Soviet Republic. It is understood that Russia is placing orders for an additional 20,000. As a result of very strong criticism in Sydney papers, there is a possibility that the Federal Government will pass a law prohibiting the export of stud Merinos from Australia.
