GARDEN PARTY AT PAPATOETOE
PROCEEDS FOR Y.W.C.A. MRS. F. LEONARD HOSTESS The spacious lawns and beautifully laid-out ga'rdens of Mr. and Mrs. F. 11. Leonard, Pine Lodge, Great South Road, Papatoetoe, presented an animated appearance on Saturday afternoon, when a garden party, attended by about 300 members and friends of the Auckland branch of the Young Women’s Christian Association, was held. The proceeds are to be devoted to the association’s funds, which will be increased by a substantial amount. Mrs. J. A. Bradstreet, president of the association, in declaring the function open, thanked their host and hostess for their kindly hospitality in placing their beautiful grounds at their disposal,' Mrs. Bradstreet also extended a cordial welcome to the large gathering, and thanked them for their presence, thus ensuring a successful function. The Papatoetoe Town Band provided an enjoyable programme. During the afternoon, keen interest was displayed in a series of croquet competitions, which were won by Mesdames Rudd and Lowe. Community games were also indulged in, and added gaiety to the afternoon. An entertaining display of English and European folk dances, and fancy dancing, was given by a party of 40 members of the Young Women’s Christian Association. Several gaily decorated stalls had been erected on the lawns, these being laden with goods both useful and Ornamental. Brisk business was reported at the close of the function. Those in charge of the stalls were: Fancy work stall, Mrs. Richards; sweet stall, Misses Ada Eade and L. Kingsford; cake stall, Mrs. Hamilton, Misses M. Wakelin and Grace Smith; ice cream stall. Misses Ron a Lipscombe and Gladys Grinter; produce stall, Mrs. T. Richards. Afternoon tea was in charge of Misses Sutton, Mesdames Hall, Partridge, Trimble, Misses K. Leonard and N. Leonard. Among those present were: Mrs. A. D. Campbell, Mayoress, Mesaames J. A. Bradstreet, Brabant, Jarvie, Lowe, Rudd, .Kenna, Dickenson, -T. Wiseman, L. Clark, Challis, Gordon, Turtill Charles Smith, Colonel and Mrs. Wyman’ Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Price. Rev. H. A and Mrs. Partridge, Misses Quayle, Cramond, Begg and Bentham.
