TIVOLI
“WEARY RIVER”
“Weary River,” the production starring Richard Barthelmess in his first talking screen appearance, is the principal feature on the sound programme at the Tivoli Theatre.
Barthelmess has a fine voice and is an actor of considerable merit. The song, “Weary River,” which has gained widespread popularity, is sung by him several times during the course of the picture.
Barthelmess takes the part of a member of a gang, who is caught and sent to prison, but while there he wins considerable fame by singing at the prison concerts. On his release he obtains work with a vaudeville company, but on being recognised as an ex-criminal is cast out upon the unsympathetic world again. The final part of the story deals with his struggle to success.
