TWO STOWAWAYS

FINES OF £5 EACH IMPOSED

FOUND ON ULIMAROA Having nothing to say, Albert Johnson and Alfred Derbyshire, who arrived at Auckland on the TJlimaroa yesterday, were each fined £5 at the Police Court this morning for stowing away. With somewhat nervous voices they pleaded guilty to stowing away at Sydney on November 22. Johnson, aged 20. sported a shock of unruly red hair. Derbyshire, a cook, aged 39. was of studious appearance, wearing goldrimmed spectacles. Sub-Inspector McCarthy said that the men had no money and had been unable to find the funds to pay thirdclass fares for the trip, £6 10s each. Default of the fine was fixed at 14 days’ imprisonment.
