GOOD FIGHTING FISH
SPORT AT LAKE OKATAINA
MANY EXCELLENT CATCHES A clean fresh lake where large fighting rainbow trout lurk in numbers is the impression of Lake Okataina gained by Dr. J. Howard Lawry, of Huntly Avenue, during a
recent visit. One of the doctor’s party hooked a 12i pounder among the day’s bag of 13 fish. ‘‘The trout are very lively and give plenty of sport,” said Dr. Lawry. "We found all in excellent condition even down to the pounder, our smallest catch.” Great patience must be exercised, however, as the fish hook very lightly. Several other parties also made excellent catches during Dr. Lawry's visit. Mr. H. W. Holmes, of Melbourne, hooked a trout which tipped the scales at lOlbs, one of a large bag. Seven fish of a total weight of 571bs was the day’s catch of Mr. G. Buddie. It was here that the largest trout of the season was hooked last year. Within easy reach of Rotorua, 25 miles distant by good roads, yet sufficiently remote to attract only the more enthusiastic angler. Lake Okataina is steadily becoming more popular. Two more boats are to be added to the fleet this year and further facilities provided for fishermen.
