TAKAPUNA FIXTURE
ARRIVALS AT THE SHORE RIDING ENGAGEMENTS At Ellerslie this morning the Takapuna High-Weight Handicap candidate Kairuri was sprinted with, and defeated, Royal Lad, at the end of three furlongs on number three grass in 39. These horses, accompanied by Operatic, were later schooled at the barrier. Joy Girl, who won the Maiden Handicap at Te Kuiti on Saturday, is ineligible for the Melrose Maiden, which is for horses that have not won a flat race at time of starting. Taurua and Some Lady have been withdrawn from the Takapuna Plate. Patutahi, a recent recruit from Gisborne to J. Buchanan’s stable, was lame after working yesterday, and may have to forego his Takapuna engagements. Arrivals at Takapuna Arrivals at Takapuna are the Takapuna Plate candidates, Ex Dono and Duellona. They are from J. McLaughlin’s Trentham stable. Another Southerner who is expected to contest the “hack classic” on Saturday is Briar Root, trained at Feilding by H. Batten. Hipo, Ridgemount and The Swell are expected to arrive from Te Kuiti today. Additional riding engagements for the Takapuna fixture are the following:— H. Dulieu.—Motere and Glena Bay (second day). L. Dulieu.—Quincoma and Greenfield. R. McTavish.—Alloy, Corinax, Vallar, Tremetus and Prince of Orange. E. Ludlow.—Lucy Rose, Mountain Guide, Good Boy and Kotahi. A. Parsons.—Respirator and Mon Star. J. Cammick.— Great Emblem. J. Conquest.—Storm Fiend, Spring Abbey and Roman Pearl (second day). It is probable that H. Gray will be riding Hyde Park in the Alison Cup, and this will mean a few pounds overweight.
