CLUB NAME CHANGED
DEVONPORT SWIMMERS’ DECISION
In future, the Devonport Amateur Swimming Club is to be known as the Nor til Shore Amateur Swimming Club. A vigorous debate at a meeting of the club last evening brought about the change.
The Devonport Club was formed from the remnants of Devonport and Cheltenham Clubs in 1923, and has progressed considerably. The new title is an indication of the club’s policy to extend its activities, especially in providing swimming education for children on the North Shore. The club colours have been changed to royal blue with white and gold stripes. A suitable monogram is to be designed. The club’s first gala this season will be at Narrow Neck Beach on December 14 in conjunction with the Wakatere Canoe Club, and a second will be held in January in Calliope Dock. Mrs. Sharp and Mrs. Farquharson have veil two cups for consistent boy and girl performers. The events for the December gala include oOyds open races for men and girls, 50yds races for Grammar School boys and girls, a dual relay, and children's races. Preparations are being made for the annual primary schools gala.
