SHOT AT ARCHBISHOP

VATICAN CITY’S FIRST CRIME

SWEDISH WOMAN’S ACT

Reed. 12.30 p.m. ROME, Monday. The first crime of intent to sully the record of the newly-constituted Vatican City occurred when Margaret Gudum, a Swede, accosted Archbishop Smlt, drew a revolver, and endeavoured to shoot him.

Prince George of Bavaria, prebendary of St. Peter’s, struck up the weapon.

Gudum is believed to be mentally afflicted, and yesterday applied to Archbishop Smit. apostolic vicar of Sweden, for employment. She was dissatisfied with his reply, and sought revenge.
