FAREWELL TO MINISTER

POINT CHEVALIER SOCIAL Organised by members of the congregation of the Church of the Ascension, Point Chevalier, an At Home was held in the XTaliyhurton Johnstone Kports Club Hall last evening to bid farewell to the Rev. C. Chandler and Mrs. Chandler, who are leaving soon lor Australia, and also as a mark of appreciation to the members of the girls’ choir and dramatic club for their services to the church during the year. The vicar, the Rev. E. Ward, welcomed the guests and, speaking of Air. Chandler’s departure, said he was a man whose influence had penetrated far and wide in and around Auckland. He was going to Australia on a special work of his own—to try to introduce more Christianity into the Labour Party in Australia, and in this he had the very good wishes of all, particularly of the many friends he had made in Point Chevalier. Air. J. S. Fletcher, AI.P., also wished success to Air. Chandler’s mission. Air. Chandler briefly replied. Alodern and old-time dancing to music supplied by Connon’s Orchestra followed and items were given by the following:—lrish jig, Aliss Phyllis King; songs, Aliss Dunningliam, Air. Dunningham, Mr. T. Houghton and Air. R. Alexander, and recitation. Miss Phyllis King.
