CHURCH SOCIAL EVENING

A social evening, arranged by the vestry and other organisations of Holy Sepulchre Parish, was held in the Parish Hall, Burleigh Street, last evening. in honour of Miss Ethel Cliegwidden and Mr. J. Herbert Pitt, who are to l>e married. Miss Chegwidden has been associated with the work of Holy Sepulchre for many year's, especially in the ladies’ choir, the girls’ club, and in the parochial tennis club. Mr. Pitt is honorary secretary of tiie vestry, and is also closely associated with the tennis club.

The musical programme, arranged by Mr. Trevor Sparling, organist and choirmaster, included items by Mr George Otrell. Miss Rita Melton and Miss Chegwidden. The greater part of the evening was spent in games, competitions and dancing. The vicar, the Rev. U. Gordon Bell, spoke of the esteem in which botli Miss Chegwidden and Mr. Pitt were held among parishioners. On behalf of the vestry ar.d choir, Mrs. Carlton Hay and Mrs. J. Ryan presented to Miss Chegwidden and Mr. Pitt a handsome cut-glass water jug and six cut-glass goblets. Mrs. Gordon Bell, on behalf of the tennis club and the girls’ club, presented a silver teapot and cream jub. Mr. Pitt suitably replied.
