BIRKENHEAD CARNIVAL

FUND FOR FIRE BRIGADE

£6OO HANDED TO MAYOR On behalf of the Birkenhead Carnival Committee the organiser, Mr. H. J. McPhail, handed to the Mayor of Mr. J. P. McPhail, at the coronation ceremony last evening, a cheque for £6OO, representing the initial instalment of the amount raised to provide a fire brigade. ' The Mayor thanked all those who had worked so hard during the past two months and congratulated them on the amount obtained. He paid a tribute to the services which the Northcote Fire Brigade had given to Birkenhead, and said he felt sure that the Northcote Borough Council would extend the present arrangement until the brigade at Birkenhead was established. The donation of £2OO from the Colonial Sugar Company, continued the Mayor, amid applause, had helped the fund considerably.
