The opening match for the Ellerington Challenge Shield was concluded on Saturday afternoon, resulting in a three-point win for the holders, Mutaura, from Martha, by six wickets and 40 runs. Continuing the first innings, Mataura knocked up a total of 109, H. Zenovich and A. Brown, not out, compiling 59 runs between them. Martha made a poor showing i it its second innings, J. T. Teesdale, 27. being the only batsman to get double figures. Requiring 55 runs to obtain a three-point win,. Mataura had 94 to its credit for the loss of four wickets when time was called. Bowling analysis.—Mataura: M. Zenovich took two wickets for 8 runs; Henry? two for 11 ; Leopold, two for 4; B. Littiefair, one for 19; 11. Zenovich, one for 7; A. Brown, one for 7; H. PIAKO ASSOCIATION From Our Own Correspondent MAIAMATA, Today. In a low-scoring two-day match at Manawaru the local eleven defeated Matamata by six wickets on Saturday. Matamata made 45 and 7S. while Manawaru put on 93 and 42 for lour wickets. Chief scorers for the winners were: Moore 19, L. Scott 19 P. Harvey 20, C. Stone 13 not out, N. Harvey 18 not out, while for Matamata Griffiths..23, Silk 17, Heaver 12 and Whelan 10 ran into double figures. Bowling for Manawaru, D. Stone, nine for 50, Cleave, five for C, 13. Scott, four for 29. Griffiths, four for 17, Whelim, four for 4S, Simpson, three for 20, took most of the wickets for Matamata.

DARGAVILLE BEATEN In the Northern Wairoa cricket championship competition on Saturday, the leading team, Dargaville, was defeated by nine runs by Pukehuia at Pukehuia. Pukehuia scored 88, of which Broomfield made 66, no other player reaching double figures. Dargaville replied with only 79 (Sundberg; 18, Palmer 28, Pa ton 10). Bowling for Dargaville, M. Parore took seven wickets for IS, and Sundberg one for 38. For Pukehuia, Gould took six for 40, and Heywood two for 4.

WAIUKU WINS ■From Our Own Correspondent WAIUKU, Today. A cricket team consisting of Auckland commercial travellers played a friendly match against the Waiuku senior eleven at Massey Park, Waiuku, on Saturday, and was beaten by ljll runs. A feature of the game was the success of Cooper (Waiuku), who secured nine wickets for 16 runs. The commercial travellers compiled 54 runs, Booth 22, Williams .13, while Waiuku replied with 165 runs, the most successful batsmen being Sampson 51, Heise 27. Cooper 20, Watson 18, Renall 15 and Hodgkinson 12.
