LUXURY LINER

OUICK TRANSPORT OF r VISITORS ON MALOLO

DUE ON SUNDAY MORNING With characteristic thoroughness the American visitors who will arrive by the Malolo next Sunday morning will immediately set off on their sightseeing tours. The great Matson liner, which was specially chartered by the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce for a grand tour of the countries of the Pacific, will steam into the harbour soon after daybreak next Sunday morning. Before 9 o’clock half the party will be on its way to Rotorua by special train. The Auckland branch of the tourist office is handling all arrangements for transport while the visitors are here. For the purposes of quick transport the 350 passengers on the Malolo have been divided into A and B groups. Kach group will do exactly the same trips though, not at the same time. According to present arrangements group A, consisting of 175 of the visitors, will leave for Rotorua next Sunday morning at 8.55 a.m. It w T ill reach the thermal centre at 3 o’clock in the afternoon and leave immediately to “do” Whakarewarewa and Fairy Springs. A Maori concert will be attended in the evening. Next Monday the party will do the six lakes trip in the morning and will leave for vuckland at 1.10 p.m., reaching the City at 6.58 p.m. On the Tuesday here will be a sight-seeing trip in Auckland, including a visit to North Shore.

Group B from the Malolo will do exactly the same trips as group A except that the schedule will be reversed. They will see Auckland first and leave for Rotorua on Monday by special train, returning to the City on Tuesday evening. FLEET OF MOTORS A fleet of 44 motor-cars has been chartered for the accommodation of the visitors while they are in Auckland. It was originally intended that the Malolo would leave Auckland early on the morning of Weffnesday, December 4, but she will now sail late on Tuesday evening. A big water and land carnival is to be staged for the tourists at Suva, Fiji and the ship wants to be there on time. It is expected that the Malolo will create a new steaming record on the voyage from Sydney to Auckland. She will leave Sydney next Friday, and if the liner arrives in Auckland according to time-table on Sunday she willhave easily beaten the record estab lished by the Aorangi. Several or less private functions are to be held for the visitors when they reach Auckland. A luncheon party is to be given on board on Tuesday, December 4, and a special lunch is to be held at the Grand Hotel on that day in honour of the more prominent visitors. Smaller functions have been ar-

ranged by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce and the Auckland Rotary Club, and informal meetings between representative business men have been arranged to take place on board. The Malolo left San Francisco some months ago on the first cruise from the United States ever to include both the Orient and the South Pacific There were 320 passengers on board but since then 30 others have joined on route. A swimming pool, a picture theatre, library, hospital, dental parlour, valet service. complete laundry. seven decks, large social halls and lounges and a dining saloon which seats the whole party at once are only a few of the comforts on this huge liner. The cabins are all spacious and comfortable, and 150 of them have private bathrooms attached. The air in the cabins and lounges is changed by automatic ventilation every three minutes. Malolo will be the most luxurious liner ever to have visited the port of Auckland, her only port of call in New Zealand.
