HARBOUR BRIDGE

BORING TO START WEDNESDAY RECLAMATION TO SHOAL BAY On Wednesday morning boring operation for the site of the proposed bridge across the harbour will be started by the contractors. The first bore will be made off the end of the Western Reclamation and across to Shoal Bay. A pontoon which will carry a light pile-driving apparatus will be used for the operations, and buoys will line the four routes which are to be tested. Four borings are to be taken along each of the four routes and it is expected that the work will be completed before the Harbour Bridge Commission sits again on December

The bores will be made by the probing method. This consists of forcing u pipe by means of a light ram down through the mud of the harbour bed until rock bottom is reached. Some interesting data will be produced wheu the borings are finished. The first route to be done is the one favoured by the Auckland Harbour Bridge Commission.
