About 40 delegate* carried a resolution in favour ff amalgamation.
The first plan to amalgamate the boroughs was discussed at a joint meeting of the representatives of tb* four boroughs on July S, 19i4 t wJnj resolution was carried endorsing u amalgamation on the ward system, each borough to form a ward. \ sidiary proposal adopted was to 1* up a North Auckland Municipal A*so. ciation. This has since been realise* under the name of the Marine &*. oughs Association. About the time a suggestion was made to gb James Parr, then Mayor of Auckland, that he should address a meeting at the North Shore on the wisdom of fim whole North Shore joining the Citr Sir James, however, was of opinio* that the City Council would have Ks hands full in amalgamating the areas on the south side of the City.
The North Shore Water Board recently circularised the boroughs pro, posing that the water board shonld be authorised to ask for wider power* to permit it to be a species of supep ccuncil, handling water, drainage transport and roads, building ana town-palnning.
Following the 1927 conference a meeting of delegates was held in the Takapuna Borough Council Chamber* to continue the discussions. The conference was adjourned to secure fur. ther data and the Mayor of Takapuna was made convener. No further meeting was held and the new suggestion does not provide any of the inform* tion previously asked for, such as the details of management costs of the boroughs and the lines along which there could be economy in administration. the big argument of those taw ouring amalgamation.
