"It’s time you o ot off t" l6 road I hope you never come back,” said Mr. f. K. Hunt, S.M.. to a 'notorist who. when charged at the Police Court this morning with dangerous driving, remarked that he was sailing for England tomorrow.

[T OWIN' REX TREMAINE, a comk snercial traveller, was charged with driving dangerously in Newmarket on November 21. He pleaded not guilty.

Constable Hendry said that it was 15.30 a.m. when Tremaine passed him in Broadway at a speed" of 4i miles an hour over the intersection He increased his pace to 50 miles an hour when going toward Great South Road. On the following morning Tremaine had come into Broadway at 30 miles an hour, passing on the wrong side of a safety-zone. He then increased his speed to 40 miles an hour and skidded badly when ordered to stop. When accosted by witness he bad said. "Ate here any speed limits on these roads at this time of the night?”

Sub-Inspector McCarthy reminded the magistrate that, there had been a severe accident, in Broadway as the reshlt of passing on the wrong side of ha- particular zone. Defendant had been fined last July when he had travelled at 37 miles an hour. Defendant denied the speeds the unstable had stated him to be traveling at. but admitted that he had passed on the wrong side of the safety-zone, explaining that he was ollowtng another ca ■ which had taken that route.
