One member referred to the fact that a farmer who had ealled for tenders for drainage; work received replies only from Austrians. Hundred* of young men. given the opportunitv would go on the land instead of drift! ing to relief works. Mr. D. The Lands Department was sufficiently important to warrant the whole-time attention of one Minister. At present the work was left to the heads oi departments. It was finally decided to ask the Government to state definitely when Ihe details of ils proposals vtould be available and when actual steps would be taken to bring the recent legislation into effect. The meeting also urged the desirability of the responsible .Minister giv. ing his whole time to the subject, which was of vital importance.
