EMPRESS, NEWTON
“THE WHEEL OF LIFE” “The Wheel of Life,” the all-talkie based on the successful stage play by James Bernard Fagan, is the principal feature on the splendid programme at the Empress Theatre, Newton. The* film is a romantic drama, and the setting is a British military post in India, where Richard Dix, as the dashing captain at the post, falls in love with the beautiful wife of his superior officer. They abandon their romance for the honour of the regiment, but meet later during an engagement with wild mountain tribesmen. The climax is one of the most amazing yet recorded on the screen. L)ix appears to advantage in the romantic role and creates a striking impression in his part as a soldier. Esther Ralston is the feminine lead, and O. P. Heggie is the colonel who never suspects the clandestine romance.
