TALKIES TRIED IN FRANCE The Prst talking pictures were produced in France over 20 years ago. When presented in Paris, the public refused to patronise them, preferring i the silent films. The first attempt to make the screen audible was made by the old Pat he Com nan y, which produced several ore-reel pictures with the dial o recorded on gramophone records. That interesting piece of information conies from Rouis Gasnier, Para- ; mount director who has just finished i Brent's first starring picture. , "Darkened Rooms.” Oasnier was : general manager of the Pat he studios 1 at Monte Carlo from lt®2 to 1905, and handled the production of these early talkies. The exterior recordings for the new Krich Pomnur Uf atone super “Heart’s Melody,*’ under the direction of llanns Schwarz, have been completed in Hungary, and the unit, including Willy Jritsch, Dita Farlo, llanns. Schwarz -nd the cameraman. Guenther Rittau. has returned to Berlin. The director, i l farms Schwarz, immediately started l cutting the negative. _
