It was rumoured in Nc.v Zealand that Honour was affected in the wind. . but there was no suggestion of ; trouble of that kind when lie was at Kamlwick. records a Sydney writer. In the A.J.C. Derby ho outstayed Comanche for third, with Cathmar amor; ; those further away. As Honour was • I lengths in 2.31ij, that made his time about 2.33;. and he had not to go that fast to win the Xow Zealand Derby i lie ran 2.35 2-5 against Jlunnymedc'; ' record of 2.31 1-5 for the race. At the 2.300gns he cost in New Zt - : land as a yearling Honour has proved a good investment, his A.J.C. hires' ! Produce Stakes win and Derby third 1 returning Air. Greenwood AX. *O3, ant] the New Zealand Derby was his , fourth win in the Dominion. H..j earnings there total about .C 2,500. ' There were at least 2L yearlings sole | in Australia in 3 92S for l,ooogns oi ! over. Dominant at 6,750gns being tl.• ! highest priced of the lot. Still Maidens Of these only the 2.ooogn> Carra- > dalo has given a substantial return ton his purchase money. Hast season !he won C 1.515 in two firsts, and this s< as< ' i his two seconds and tl ! carried £ 3,000, making a total of j £4.51-5. With very few exceptions all the other four-figures yearlings of : are still maidens, Dominant’s earnings being £IOO for a second. ; Reverting to the New Z ; Derby. Jaleux, in the same ownership jas Honour, was one of the field, but i did not gain a place. Count Paladin j running second, and Eaglet third. In his races at Rand wick Jaleux | looked like staying, but evidently lit cannot quite get a mile and a half. This was Mr. G. D. Greenwood’s sixth New Zealand Derby win, was fortunate in the first place in scouring R. J. Mason to train his horses j Xow he has father and son looking 1 after his interests. The two-year-old Praise, winner of the Welcome Stakes, is also owned by Air. Greenwood, and cost him l,4oogns. j She is by Limond from Eulogy, grand- ! dam of Honour. Missed Sydney Ertries Unluckily for Afr. Greenwood his . yearling nominations for coming twe \ and three-year-old races at Randwick were lodged too late to be accepted, and he will be unrepresented in the A.J.C. Sires’ Produce Stakes ot Champagne Stakes next autumn or ir the A.J.C. Derby. Strangely enough he did not mist the V.R.C. entries, and Ozone anti Praise are in the autumn two-year-old races as well as the Victoria Derby J It has not transpired who is to blame i for the oversight, but Air. Greenwood ! will have cause for regret if either j Praise or Ozone proves right out of ! the ordinary.
