FLYING-BOAT WRECKED
CRASH OFF SARDINIAN COAST TWO PERSONS DROWNED ROME, Wednesday. Disaster overtook a flying-boat on the Ostia-Sardinia service today, two people being killed and several others injured. The crash was caused by an optical illusion which air pilots call a “mirror.”' The pilot was bringing the machine down at the entrance to the harbour of Terranova, Pausania, Sardinia. He found he could not gauge the height from the water owing to the sheen upon the sea. The flying-boat crashed on the surface of the water and capsized. Men in motor-boats dashed out to the scene and saved seven passengers and four members of the crew. Another passenger and Count Eucrico Pierc-y were drowned. All those who were rescued were injured. They included the Undersecretary for War, Signor Manaresi, who was slightly hurt, and Signor Fe.ri, a member of the Chamber of Deputies, who suffered a broken leg.
