FAREWELL AT GISBORNE
GOVERNOR-GENERAL’S VISIT Press Association GISBORNE, Today. Too Governor-General. Sir Charles Fergiisson. and Lady Alice Fergus:? on. arrived at Gisborne at one o’clock yes- | t ©relay from Wairoa, and remained there until this afternoon, when they I left for Motu and Opotiki. Th© proceedings throughout were ! most enthusiastic. A long procession i of territorials, veterans, cadets. Boy Scouts and Girl Guides, with the school children marched to the reserve, where a public meeting was held to | bid the visitors farewell. There was a ! largo attendance. Addresses were de- ! livered by the Mayor, Mr. D. W. Cole- j man. and Mr. W D. Lysnar. M.P., and | his Excellency replied. During the proceedings Sir Charles was presented with a valuable Maori I mat on behalf of Lady Carroll. Later in the afternoon her Excellency delivered an address to the 1.100 { women and girls of the district at the i Opera House. She urged parents to ! their children a bias to life on the ! land, and also spoke on the Plunkot i society. Girl Guides, and the League of Mothers. At 7 p.m.. his Excellency, as Grand j M - thi New Zealand Freemasons. attended a crowded function at th® order, all constitutions being re- i ted. .v 8 pan. a largely attended civic reception and farewell was j given itt tho Garrison Hall. where | speeches were delivered by the Mayor i and the chairmen of local bodies. i
