OPENING OF “CONQUEST" Anticipaiing the tremendous interest wh.ich is focused upon polar exploration flights. Warner Bros, have pro- ! dueed a lavish motion picture special with < the aerial conquest of the Antarctic as its central theme, and this is coming- to the Plaza Theatre today. '‘Conquest" is the title of the pro- j duction with Monte Blue in the star- , ring role: H. B. Warner featured. Lois V\ ilson in the leading feminine part and Edmund Breese and Tullv Marshall prominently cast. Roy Del Ruth directed the brilliant drama which pictures the daring and dangers of the j heroes of the sky as never before. Two flights si mi- ! lar to that deline- i ated in "Conquest” are at present ; under way. one under Commander ! Byrd and a second under the com- : mand of Captain ; Wilkins. "Conquest actually | details two at- ! tempts to master ! the baffling Antarc- j tic, its plot ex- ! posing the perils 1 of the sub-zero zone, and its effect upon the mental fibre of the daring adventurers who seek to conquer it. j Blue lias a heroic role as the pilot of ’ the ill-fated attempts and Warner j acts as his navigator. The giant tri-motored Albatross, which attracted international atten- ; tion on two occasions by its attempts j to set sustained flight records, was | used in filming flying scenes in “Con- ; quest.” The ship is one of the largest ! in the world. To insure accuracy in ! all technical details Warner Bros, en- : gaged Lieutenant James E. Dyer, as supervision. The navy . flyer last year won the national trophy for total number of hours in the air, his total for the year being 1,251 hours. "Conquest” is based on "Candle in the Wind,” the popular novel by Mary ImJay Taylor. The remainder of this new programme will include several speciallyselected all-talkie items, chief of which will be the sound record of the trooping of the colours at the Horse Guards parade last King's Birthday. The sound of the massed Guards band is stated to be particularly clear. Other items will be songs by the Honolulu Boys, songs by Joe Mong. the Chinese jazz boy, and the latest Paramount sound gazette.
