TEXAS BANDIT LYNCHED
HANGED ON TELEPHONE YARD-ARM ATTEMPT TO BREAK GAOL NEW YORK, Tuesday. A notorious bandit, Marshall Ratcliffe, was lynched by 100 men this evening at Eastland, Texas. He had previously attempted to escape from the gaol. Ratcliffe was known as “Santa Clans.” He dressed in a Christmas outfit, on December 23, 1928, and led a gang into the bank at Cisco. Two officials were killed, and the gang escaped with a large siini of money. The bandit had been convicted of murder. It. was when lie was awaiting a new trial that he tried to escape from the gaol. Early this evening a mob hauled the man up over a telephone yardarm. The rope broke, and Ratcliffe fell to the ground. He pleaded for time in which to make a speech, but could not make himself heard. Within a few minutes the bandit died at the eud of a stronger rope.
