SACKED!
P. AND T. CHRISTMAS PRESENT SIXTEEN CASUALS TO GO “A Christmas box from the Post ' and Telegraph Department . . . sacked J from our jobs I” So said three casual linesmen employed by the P. and T. Department, who called at The Sun office today and produced official documents notifying them that their services would not be required after Monday, November 25. “There is enough work to keep double the number of men engaged,” said the spokesman of the trio. “However, llic Government is holding up on spending cash until the end of the financial year, and as a result. 16 of us have received these notices.” One man had a record of 26 years, both permanent and casual, in the P. and T. Department; another said he had been with the department, about seven years; the third being employed for the past 12 months. “It isn’t as if we could afford it,” they said. “The department pays | us only £3 19s 9d a week, and how | can a man live on that, or save enough ito keep him when thrown out of work?”
