YACHT SEASON OPENING
SATURDAY’S PROGRAMME COMBINED RACES ARRANGED Saturday will see the opening of the j yachting season in Auckland, when ; seven clubs will combine in holding a race meeting. The various boats will race under separate handicaps, declared by the club to which thev belong, and will thus have an opportunity of winning prizes with each body in the one race. Handicaps closed last evening with the Akarana, Takapunu, Tamaki and Victoria Clubs. and will, close this evening with the Devonport Yacht Club and with the Richmond and the Ponsonbv Cruising dubs. In certain of the classes the time has been extended to allow further entries to be received, as the response so far has been disappointing. Following are handicaps declared: AKARANA YACHT CLUB A and B Classes, to start at 2.20 p.m.— Nga-Toa on wind scr, off wind scr; Mahaki, 35min and 20min; Gloriana, 40min and 23min. C and Li Classes, to start at 2.2 S p.m.— lona, scr, scr; Scout, 2min and lrnin; Janet, 3min and 2min; Alexa, 4min and 3min; JMaybello, 6nun and lrnin; Mahoe, 13min and 7min; Beaute, 13min and lOmin. II and 1 Classes, to start at 2.30 p.m.— Starloeh, scr and scr; Starlight, scr and lrnin; Spray, 3min and lmin; V Oniatere, -hnin and i’min; Why Not, 14min and 7min. L Class, to start at 2.14 p.m.—Kakoa, scr and scr; Valeria, scr and Amiri; Otira, lmin and •lmin; Malua, smin and 3min; Huia, 7min and smin; Doreen, 11 min and Tmiii; Mowai, 15min and 9min. Launches, to start at 2.52 p.m.—DntPies: Kenya, Coquette, Nyria, Kathryn 11. The handicaps will be. declared today. M Class, to start at 3 p.m.—Mawhitl, Jlnnene, Matarere, Mann, all scr. V Class, to start at 3.8 p.m.—Surprise, scr; Wild Wave, 3min; Secret, 3min; DesUeniona, Gimin; Mystic, Smin. Star Class (special trophy), to start at S.S p.m.—June, scr: Maid "Marion, lmin. to start at 3.16 p.m.—Buiigr.rc- , scr: Waitin’, 2min; Huia 11, Bmin. T and V Classes, to start at 3.24 p.m.— Lois, Opah. Rawhiri 11, hil scr; Ramona, 2miir. Marie, 3rnin. The closing time of entries has been extended until fiveo’clock today and if sufficient entries are received the classes will bo separated.
