MORRINSVILLE NOTES

Advice has been received by the Piako County Council, from the Public Works Department, that the proposals for the erection of a new bridge on the Morrinsville-Hamilton highway, near the Motumaolio School, have been approved, with the amendment that the width be increased to 18 feet and traffic planking extended to the lull width to provide for two lines of traffic, or else replaced by a bituminous carpet. The fact that there lias ■ been two more motor smashes at the Motumaolio railway crossing, as a result of one of which a man was seriously injured, was mentioned by Cr. Stark at Monday’s meeting of the Piako County Council. This crossing is a particularly dangerous one, owing to the fact that the road runs parallel with the line and takes a right-angle turn at the crossing. Cr. Stark said the engineer, Mr. B. H. Horner, had discussed the question with the resident engineer at Paeroa. who was taking it up with the department through the Main Highways Board. ° The Morrinsville Tennis Club has decided to hold a Queen Carnival with the object of raising funds to reduce the liability of the club. At a meeting on Saturday Misses A. Cornish, D. Lowiv and A. Thomas were selected as .the three queens.
