MAU WELCOMES CHIEFS
RETURN TO SAMOA MILE-LONG PROCESSION The Aiau leaders Faumuina and Tuialealufano. who returned to Samoa by the last trip of the Tofua, were given a great welcome on arriving at Apia on Friday. A wireless message received in Auckland says that four decorated fautasis (native long-boats) with 24 rowers in each, and nine others, fully-manned, met the Tofua and escorted her into the anchorage. There were many thousands assembled at the wharf where Tamasese and other chiefs greeted the home-comers. Alore than 2,000 Aiau formed a guard of honour, lining the footpaths two deep from the Park, at the Customs House, to the Clock Tower. Headed by the Aiau band the chiefs walked through the lines, followed by a procession a mile long, and went to Vaimoso where a big reception was held. The proceedings were orderly throughout and were watched by hundreds of interested sightseers.
