HOTEL BURNED DOWN

FIRE NEAR CHRISTCHURCH FURNITURE DESTROYED Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. The Ashley Bank Hotel, about 20 miles from Christchurch, was completely destroyed by fire this afternoon. The building was a wooden one of 20 rooms. The fire broke out in the kitchen near a hot water cylinder, and spread so quickly that there was no time to save anything but a few 7 clothes. The hotel was built in 1901, and was owned by Mr. Walter Ford, of Christchurch. The licensee was Mr. Anthony Scalmer. The furniture was insured for £I,OOO in the Royal Office.
