TIVOLI

“MODERN LOVE” The talking comedy feature. “Modern Love.” which is now at the Tivoli Theatre, has an unusually strong cast of players in its featured roles. Jean Hersliolt, well known for liis remarkable character portrayal in many great productions, including “Stella Dallas,” “Abie’s Irish Hose,” and many others, heads the cast. With him are Charley Chase and Kathryn Crawford. Chase was lor years director of comedies, but his natural talent for acting was of so decided a nature that he was cast by Ilal Roach as the star of a series of two-reel comedies which have made him famous. Kathryn Crawford, the pretty leading lady of “Modern Love,” was noted as a musical comedy singer before starting her screen career. In this picture she has an opportunity of both acting and singing, for the picture is part dialogue and features a theme song which Miss Crawford sings first as a solo and later in a duet with Charley Chase. The story, writien by Beatrice Van, is based on a fifty-fifty marriage agreement entered into by two young people who haven't enough money to marry on without both retaining their positions. The fact that this scheme is being tried out by many young couples will undoubtedly make the picture one of great interest. The Tivoli programme also includes several short talkie items.
