“WEARY RIVER’’ ■ Wear \ River." the enjoyable • talkie" ' picture. starring Richard Rai-thelmess and Betty Compson, now at. the Plaza Theatre, is one of the most dramatic and at the same time tuneful tUms shown in Auckland for some time. Barthelmess is huppilj cast in t.ie role of a -gansstcr.-' who. cast into prison at the instigation of a r.val, achieves fame as a musician. He finds on liis release that his past lias not been forgotten, and when he appears before an audience a voice whispers the word "crook. He breaks down, and in doing so does some of his finest dramatic aotinp. He redeems himself in a. remarkable manner and the film closes in a happy Barthelmess. in his first "talk: . is j an outstanding success, while Betty: Compson, in the feminine lead, plays a j highly sympathetic and emotional role with credit.
