OPEN-AIR SCHOOLS

ANNUAL MEETING TOMORROW A valuable collection of slides Ulus- j ti a ting the developments in open-air j schools has been acquired by the j Auckland branch of the Open-Air Schools’ League, and will form the subject of an address by the president at. the annual meeting* tomorrow evening*. Dr. E. B. Giyison will preside. The annual report states that the executive has been in close touch with tlie Christchurch branch and has received invaluable help from Dr. Phil- j lips. Communications have been re- i ceived from open-air schools and organisations abroad and further information is being* sought from Europe and America. Delegates of the league have waited upon tlie Avondale South School Committee, whose plans for the first openair school classroom in Auckland, along the lines advocated by the league, were approved by the Auckland Education Board. “We regret that in spite of this undertaking the Education Beard has since instructed the architect to erect a building according to its own plans,” states the report. Seventeen addresses on open-air schools have been delivered during the year by various members of the executive. The new Diocesan School is now being erected in Hamilton, and will comprise several detached bungalow ! class-rooms built on tlie Feudal ton i plan. The executive believes that, the time has arrived to make a wide appeal for public support, and a campaign for increased membership is now in progress.
