Today they met three m< mb n - of the Federal Ministry, Messrs. K. C. Theodore (Treasurer), F. Brennan (Attorney-General), and J. A. Beasley (Assistant-Minister for Industry), to discuss tlie position. The objective of the miners’ representatives was to force the Federal Government to carry out its promise to reopen the mines. Mr. Theodore, however, threw down the gage to the miners. He told their leaders the Federal Government was looking to them for help, not for embarrassment, in the delicate situation. Tbe Ministry took a most serious view of tlie situation, said Mr. Theodore. and it was essential that tlie mining unions should sink their differences and come forward with constructive proposals. The conference ended without any decision being reached. Tin- matter win be considered bj the Federal Cabinet at Canberra on Tuesday.
