WORK ON NEW BUILDING i Good progress is being- made with the erection of the Presbyterian or- j phanage at Papatoetoe, and it is an- j licipated the buildings will be handed j over to the Dingwall Trust Board by ! the contractor, Mr. C. \V. Ravenhall. • at the end of the year. it has been j decided that the oflieial opening will i be held early in the New Year. | Accommodation will be available for 00 children, and it is hoped to have the home opened before the com- ; i mencement of the 1930 school year. The home is built according to re- : cent ideas of orphan home design in j England, and consists of three cot- j ! tages, each capable of accommodating | 3.0 children and the necessary staff. | The assembly hall and adjoining kit- ! chen form the central feature of the block. The building throughout is of fireproof material, the outside walls being of red brick. Work in connection with the laying out of the grounds is already well advanced. Drives and a paved entrance are being formed to give access from Kautanui Road, off East Tamaki Road. An orchard has been planted, and the groundsman, who has been in residence for some j time, has prepared a vegetable gari den for the needs of the home, i The home stands on an area of 40 j acres, and portion, which will be | j utilised as a farm in connection with ■ the home, will help to defray part of 1 i the maintenance cost. I The principal expense of the home ! | will be provided out of the bequest I ;of £ 200.000 made by the late Mr. ! i David Dingwall for the establishment j J of the home.
