TENNIS CLUB OFFICIAL OPENING AND SOCIAL There was a record attendance for the opening of the Wesley Young Aren's Institute’s tennis court at Grange Itoad. -Mount Eden, on Saturday. The Rev. W. Walker, in a happy speech, referred to the necessity of providing for every side of life foi young people. Afternoon tea was provided, and a very enjoyable afternoon's tennis was indulged in. The Rev. W. Walker. Messrs. E. Attwell and I*J. Selby were elected .president, secretary and treasurer, respectively. In the evening, tlm W.Y.M.I. held its annual fancy dress social, which was a great success. About 90 were present. Mount Eden, Dominion Road, llemuera and Devonport Bible Classes being represented. Mr. K. Attwell made a capable M.C.. and many original games and competitions were played . Aliss G. Elliott, as a Victorian Lady and -Mr. W. Eastac, as a Page, weiaawarded prizes for the best fancy dresses. MELROSE PARK CLUB OPENING DAY FUNCTION Melrose Park Tennis Club, at Devonport. made a third and successful attempt on Saturday, to open its season: the two preceding Saturdays having been so wet that all out of doors functions were postponed. The club has courts that have been constructed. within 12 months, on an area that was previously a mangrove swamp. .The novelty of playing en these sand courts was greatly relished by a representative set of four players from Reniuera Club, who accompanied Mr. E. Hickson, president of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association, on a
