BIBLE SOCIETY’S ACTIVITIES SUPPORT FROM. AUCKLAND ; Contributions throughout the Auck- ; lanrl Province in response to appeals : lor support to the British and Foreign ! Bible Society’s work, totalled £2,811 i in the past year, according to the rei port of the Auckland br&nch. The re- ! port will l>o presented at the annual meeting in the Baptist ‘Sfcabsrnacle next j Thursday evening, when addresses will j be given by the Etev. Hay id Calder, i Dominion secretary, and Mr. R. A. La id law. In the past 12 months, the honorary collector. Captain W. T. Brand, col- | lected £3OO in sums ranging from Is' ; upward. Reference was also made to j , the society's loss through the death of Miss I'L Harvey. Two city branches! and several small country branches ; ! were established during the year. A ! bequest of £SO from the late Mr. | I Donald McKay, of Whangarei. was*also ; : acknowledged. In accordance with its practice, the society distributed Gospel portions in ! the Auckland Hospital, the Mental Hospital, to need.'- Sund.iy Schools, and \ backblock missions. An innovation | was the placing of Bibles in hotel bedrooms. the funds for this purpose being subscribed over and above the . usual donations. Ten new versions of Scripture were ' published by headquarters in the past j i 12 months, the Book now being printed - ,int> 1 S languages.
